IDS at Haaga-Helia

About IDS

IDS stands for International Degree Students of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. IDS is the part of International Division of HELGA - student union of Haaga-Helia UAS.


Mission of IDS is to fulfil the special needs of international degree students during their study in Finland. The main objective is to reach out international degree students in order to:

  • make their stay in Finland more rewarding,
  • make their lifes easier and more enjoyable
  • create a better social and cultural atmosphere for all international students at HAAGA-HELIA. 

IDS is meant to unite all the various cultures present in HAAGA-HELIA as well as to promote understanding and acceptance of different cultures.The goal of IDS is to promote togetherness, unity, friendship and diversity.

Basic activities of IDS include: supporting those students who are far from home; to educate one another about variations and similarities among our cultures; organize event that will help international students to integrate into Finnish culture as well as feel welcomed.

When starting the studies at HAAGA-HELIA, international degree students face a number of diverse issues: how to get information about  their degree programmes, where to find housing, how to start integrating themselves into life in Finland and to the studentlife at the University. IDS is  ready to promote mutual assistance and to advance the cause of international students in cooperation with the university’s management, to improve and enforce policies towards international students, and to resolve any problems an international student may encounter on campus through mutual assistance and practice.
